You can’t blame me if sometimes - I wonder                                                        why you cause me such pain and misery 
Your swinging doors are always locked by midnight
When you toss me out and put away the key
                                     
That song on the juke box drives me crazy
And the whiskey hides the sorrows, I suppose
Each night the past comes back in time to haunt me
for broken hearts that’s the way it goes      

Will the last one be free if I’m leaving 
Drinking memories from a bottle is killing me
The glamor of your nightlife, so imposing
When I go, will the last one be free

I look in the mirror and I - wonder
Are these lines on my face so plain to see
Each line runs a highway to destruction
And the end of the road is calling me

I sit alone at my table 
And wonder how her love could grow so cold                                                          That neon light flashing in the window
Reminds me of a love that whiskey stole
                          

I lost a good hearted woman
For I’m a man of the world 
I have the love of the honky tonk inside me
But I can’t  sell it to a daddy’s girl
                                        
I’m leaving this honky tonk in Dallas
And I’m walking to that lonely room of mine
As that neon light fades into the darkness 
That old stairway gets mighty hard to clamb
