Poem
Ever stand in the pouring rain And feel the loss, feel the pain, Watching all your dreams get washed away? Seems like ev'ry now and then You don't know where you'll begin Because ev'rything is locked in yesterday. And if the Statue of Liberty Were to be washed out to sea, You could say it was just another rainy day. Ever walked on a gravel road, Through the hunger, through the cold Never really knowing what you'll see? Maybe you'll get lucky there, Finding something you can share, Or sell it to the largest company. Then, if the Statue of Liberty Were to make it back from the sea, You could say you saw her on a gravel road out east. Ever felt the whole world shake, Not from love but from a quake When you were looking for a place to hide. After ev'rything came down Had been gathered up and bound, Someone pointed out that you survived. That old lady's torch had lit the way, Offered up salvation on that day; You could thank her for the gift of being alive. Ever woke on a brand new morn To find you've weathered every storm, And left all those dark days far behind? That's enough to change your view When ev'rything looks new Dwelling underneath the bright sunshine. I'm sure that she will be standing strong For many years after we are gone, Welcoming all that walk that immigration line.
