Poem
Why of all souls, you had to be the chosen one, But without you, these verses would have never seen the light of day. You’ve stolen a shard of my essence, now shackled in the cuffs of your hands, I ask, will you keep it as a trophy or cast it into the abyss of forgetfulness? You’ve maneuvered the strings of my heart, my love for you was a drama, I let you turn me into your puppet, Even if my fate was to resemble Romeo's tragedy, You, like a ventriloquist, breathed into me alien words, without an echo of truth. Will you acknowledge my fruitless efforts? Or will you embrace the lie, allowing the truth to fade in the shadow? I wanted to etch your name on the canvas of the rain, But my tears came too late, when my soul was already a tomb. My thoughts continually search for you, a traffic light ignored in the race of life. You’ve painted your words on the canvas of my soul, a distorted portrait, Hoping that in the end, in the epitaph, you would find a trace of seriousness. Your gaze stirs my gravestones, perhaps looking for a spark of beauty, But in my memory, you remain forever that unreal woman, queen of a lost kingdom. Among the graves of the world, some simple, others grandiose, I’ve ceased to weave words for you to distort, My emotions, once like a tempestuous ocean, now just a tranquil pond. You were my dark dream, but not one to truly hate. In this theatre of solitude, where I was only a supporting actor, Under your spell, I danced as you wished, until the curtain fell, And I was left alone, on an empty script, far from your deceiving lights. In the silence that follows, I write my own epitaphs, In the memory of a love that melted away like smoke in the air, Even in this separation, I keep you as a pale shadow, A phantom teaching me how to love, how to lose, and above all, how to find myself again.
