Poem

He says he is disgusted by gay people
and that he could never be their friend.
This statement cut me up inside like a 
knife and there was no need to pretend.
 
I just wonder how so much hatred could
come from someone like him?
Maybe it's because he's young
or has never witnessed a gay relationship
but is that really any excuse 
For him to banish one type of people?
Isn't this some form of racism?

I shutter to think how he will think 
later on in life if this is a reflection
of his thirteen year old mind.
Will he ever accept me?
Well that depends on if I tell
I get a stale taste in my mouth
every time I think about being judged.

It's not that I'm gay 
it's more that I'm not straight
does being in the middle 
mean I'm half loved and half hated
I get so frustrated when I think of these things
so unexpected was his disgust that it shocked me

I don't associate with these types of people
these narrow minded prejudice prudes 
but when it's your own nephew 
spitting out these injustices
what is his grown aunt to do? 
Should I judge him back too?
