Poem

not mechanical minded


In my new life in Portugal, living in a small village and before I had a dog, I needed to explore my new country
I bought an old motorbike (Zundapp) the seller advised me to buy spark plugs, so I bought a few which I put in the tool leather bag under the seat.
After falling off the bike I lost my balance because
I was driving too slow, I got the hang of it and was ready to drive on long excursions.
One day I came to a village that had a cafe I stopped
had a coffee and a cake, but when driving off again the bike wouldn't start
Outside the cafe where elderly men sat “Shooting the breeze” to borrow from the American phrase, I was aware they looked on with interest 
A man came up and said,” You need spark plugs.”
I showed him my two plugs, but I had no repair tools
Now I was surrounded by the whole village I had broken the routine and all were willing to help even
the women by the water well and the children 
Someone had tools the bike was repaired and everyone 
looked happy.
As I drove off I turned to wave lost my steering and fell down a ditch and wished I could stay there forever
Helping hands came, dusted me down, checked the bike
which was OK, I knew they were trying not to laugh 
I had made their day
I mounted the bike and drove away, but this time I didn't
turn around to wave.
