Poem
When I became nominated for ’Fabulous Over 40’ for the National Breast Cancer Foundation campaign, I became passionate as I campaigned for votes and donations. However, I had never lost a loved one to breast cancer; but the campaigning was very close in heart for me, because I had lost someone so dear and precious to me by way of ovarian cancer. My dear mother-in-law, Mary Tucker, passed away 2004 (bless her soul), who said I was the daughter she never had. So, in the 12th year of being married to her son, my husband of now 35+ years, we were residing in Florida, and she was in California, as after 7 years of bonding with one of the most amazing women I had ever met, we moved to my own hometown here in Florida. The hardest thing next to not being able to afford to fly out with husband to be with her before her passing, was finally seeing her again deceased. Mary Tucker was a rose and she fought hard for life! I remember the many talks long distance we had as she and I both wanted to see each other just one more time; I couldnt imagine that she was actually slipping away. Cancer did not just take her away. It took her away abruptly, and it took away a chance to see her alive again. My one consolation is that I will see her again in glory one day. So, I find myself a new advocate for both causes, and combining the two, in my heart, I decided to write this poem. for ladies of pink and teal, like my rose, Mary Tucker... this one’s for you.
