A bit of history, first . . . . This song is about the sinking of the Titanic, it sank into the North Atlantic Ocean on April 14-15, 1912, after striking an iceberg. Of 2240 passengers and crew 706 people survived. The bandleader was Wallace Henry Hartley and he and his bandmates played as the Titanic was sinking. When all was panic they played. Their last song was Nearer, My God To Thee. They found his body with his violin still strapped to him. Wallace and his bandmates are considered heroes. He was born and grew up in Lancaster England where there is a bust of him. His true love Marie, had the violin inscribed- it is worth millions. This song is a message to his family and his truelove. Thank you Joe and BCC for the tribute . . . . This is mine . . . . "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Bible 21:4 Mother, father, brother- oh, I miss you so, thank you for the perfect life you gave to me; soon, I will be part of the ocean below, so, I sing these words before my soul is free. It won't be long until I will be gone, gone, I will bring comfort till the last soul is gone; and I leave this life with your love in my heart, this last song before to heaven I depart ! I imagine the farm and the golden wheat, I wonder if my destiny was foretold; and I recall those days of my youth so sweet, the water comes and it is so cold, cold, cold. It will be over- Titanic is sinking, I will soothe each soul and will not be thinking; though, I am afraid of dying, so afraid, through songs we play tonight I have prayed. My sweet love, my darling Marie, go on, I will always be with you even in death; for this man will be gone high above by dawn, you have been my reason, my soul, heart and breath. At his death father said don't shed a tear son, oh, this unsinkable ship is almost done; this day I give myself to God who loves me, now, I sleep in the ocean deep my soul free.
