Poem
For anyone who has struggled with a challenging childhood... You are not alone. May you be healed, heard, loved, and cared for. Blessings, love and light. Where are my heroes? By Michelle Morris 11/12/2022 When you're young And the grown-ups are distant When they're irresponsible Self-centred and enjoy criticizing You grow up pretty independent You learn to look after others Intuit emotions, needs and feelings As well as learn to apologise needlessly You avert your eyes And look for the door You're always ready For the next fall Eventually you become A master of the human psyche You hide your needs And you hate surprises Human behaviour is obvious to you You know what they're thinking You know what they'll do And, always, always, you're ready to leave Where are my heroes? You often think to yourself Why is there no one for me? When you ever need help Why did I get this family? These parents so poor? Why was I treated so badly With no one to stop it all? And throughout your life You do your best to achieve "normal" But you never knew it So it's difficult to embrace it at all So, you live on the fringes Always the eccentric weirdo You embrace all your talents And help others you feel for But, ultimately, you're sad And lonely and isolated Because no matter how much you give You never have backup when you need it So, you live alone And keep to yourself You stay warm and friendly But distant, to spare your health You remain kind and fair And set an example of how to live And you always hope that no one else Ever goes through what you did But, it's unlikely that anyone Will ever know your secrets All that deep, dark hell Is shameful, as it's real Of course, once in a while Someone will truly see you They'll see the sadness in your eyes And might speak to your soul's blues No matter what happens You know God knows everything Maybe one day in Heaven He'll explain the reasons for your being © Michelle Morris, 2022
