My Lady in Red By Franklin Price 01/31/2022 I was awake perusing, through the travels in my life And dwelling on the visions of my dear departed wife. As memories kept coming, of the good times in my head, Rising to the forefront was my lady dressed in red. In the early nineties, we bought our first Harley D. Got into distance riding on our FXR-SP At first she rode behind me, for fifty thousand miles, not less What happened then, I'll tell you, so you will not have to guess We bought a dresser with a sidecar, to carry our grandchild around Barb did not have to balance, was no need to touch the ground. Learned the ins and outs of all controls, enjoyed riding on her own She often said, I rode in ways, that she could not condone. On trips I rode the FXR. She rode the sidecar every day She only weighed a hundred pounds. It was not easy, I must say At night I rubbed her shoulders to take away some of her pain At daybreak, the next morning, we were on the road again. She surprised me with a Standard. I do not recall the year We lowered down the FXR. It was red just like her gear She traveled with me everywhere. The FXR was then her ride Her feet could reach to touch the ground. She was always by my side Cruising through the countryside, wind blowing through her hair In States without a helmet law, her dyed red locks were bare The bright red leathers that she wore, as we rode across the land, Said she went through life with gusto, and she always took a stand . We continued going everywhere; the lower 48 and more, South Africa and Canada; not that we were keeping score. We retired fifteen years ago. I still have the FXR. When I ride it, she'll be with me, she'll always be my shining star.
