Poem
It was a night of celebrations, The king of Babylon held a great feast; A thousand nobles were in attendance At his opulent palace in the East. The wine was flowing freely, Under its influence the king decreed That Israel's gold and silver vessels, (Stolen by his father's greed) Be brought for all to drink and praise Their gods of gold and silver and stone. A night of debauchery was in motion But, such sacrilege God couldn't condone. Suddenly, the fingers of a man's hand Appeared and began writing on the wall, Writing a divine message of retribution, Signalling Babylon's sudden fall. Belshazzar's face became pale From the fear that gripped his soul, Even his knees were knocking, His body looked like losing control. The king called out loudly Summoning astrologers to the room, Seeking to solve the mystery Of those words spelling out his doom. But, they couldn't clearly explain Or make sense of what they saw Until Daniel, a man of God was allowed To give interpretation, true, and sure. A message of doom it was as That very night Belshazzar was killed, And from her zenith, Babylon fell, Because it was all as God willed. Armed forces stormed the city Just as a prophecy centuries ago Said Cyrus the Mede would conquer - An Empire he would overthrow. We all will do well to take note Of those events that occurred that night And be careful not to be so proud That all sense would quickly take flight. Remember, the Most High over the Earth Can remove anyone who has the gall To challenge his rightful authority - Remember, the writing on the wall!
