Poem
Thru maritime miles of meals and mates I posed as a pirate for polishing plates For singing a song of the surf and the sea I traded my turf for a tempest of tea I had to be strong when I woke up at four To prove my own worth in a fake pirate lore To sail the ocean and sing with the crew And salvage my trip with a skirmish or two The ship I was on had a world to explore My vision of love was a lady before The thrill of my life was about to unfold But not as you thought by the lover you hold The captain is crazy for treasure to dig But he wears a patch with a debutante's wig The lady he keeps is a cause of concern She boils the water but can't make it burn The ship in our sight has a passenger crew Our pirates are strong with a victim or two The passenger list is a joy to behold The women are kissed by the color of gold The pirates begin with a cannonball shot The shape of the ship is assuredly not The women are screaming for help to arrive And those who resist are more dead than alive The battle is briefer than eggs can be fried The bodies are few by the sailors who died The ocean is willing to swallow the dead My notion of killing is hollow instead The evening is still with a touch of the breeze And even my shipmates are sailing with ease The fish are still flapping a finicky flight And someone is polishing silver tonight The ocean is deep for the ships when they die And though I should weep for the people I spy The path of adventure is calling once more And I am enthralled by a sea to explore The soul of the ocean is stealing my will By trolling emotion that lies in me still The lull of the sea is the calm in my day For pulling me free in a fortunate way A whale is with us for part of our trip She follows the lead of my old pirate ship The peace in my life is the quiet I need To bury my strife in a colorful read Somewhere in my life is a beautiful wish To find me a wife in the net of a fish By sailing the ocean and searching the sea And sharing my joy for the freedom in me.
