-On September the sixteen, sixteen-hundred and twenty The Mayflower set sail for the land of milk and honey To the land called Virginia, on a map they were shown The Pilgrims will leave England and travel to the unknown The Pilgrims seek to work and raise their families freely To live by Gods law in truth and believes was ideally Their faith is strong, their spirits on fire They hungered for freedom, to worship God, their desire Aboard the Mayflower was a hundred and two That didn't include the captain and crew The owner and captain was Christopher Jones And a crew of 30, their fate?...was unknown The Pilgrims, would embark on a 66-day quest Conditions were horrible, their bodies in distress In a stench filled dungeon, one deck down below Heard the Saints singing praise to God - their faith would only grow Reaching Virginia was uncertain as the winter winds blew Circling back to Cape Cod was a safe thing to do On November the twenty first, Sixteen-hundred and twenty The Mayflower reached America, the land of Milk and Honey 11/3/2021 A Noteworthy Ship Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Robert James Liguori October 17, 2021 ~ Honorable Mention ~
