Poem

When I was young,
The future stretched endlessly before my bewildered eyes,
Reaching as far as the horizon of infinity
Thus
Making me feel invincible and immortal.
 
Life was an enjoyable experience for me back then
For
At every moment she was revealing to me, one after the other, 
her many marvels.

No surprise that I was infatuated with life's beauty, and her  
Many challenges  
so
When I was invited to follow her adventurous ways
I did not hesitate at all, on the contrary, I rushed forward and 
became one of her actors on the central stage
Thus
I turned into her most enthusiastic devotee, 
So
I dared to dream to change the world: 
To fight the evils that made society suffer
To eradicate hate
To obliterate wars
To eliminate hunger
To establish justice
To bring peace, and 
To irrigate the tree of love in Man's heart.

For decades I gallantly fought these formidable opponents but 
To no avail.

The time has past and I am not anymore an actor on
The central stage. 
I have become one of the innumerable spectators of life
With no strength to keep up the struggle.

Now, I can only pray, 
Pray to God to send fresh troops that are:
More courageous than I
More daring
More determined
More unafraid 
For
The final victory to be achieved 
And 
Good over evil to prevail!
