Poem
I'm becoming increasingly concerned when I see people rushing to judgement based on publicly sourced "facts". On the other hand I agree that our current "justice" system leaves a lot to be desired. There must be an alternative we can create together... a way to establish the facts with a minimum of turmoil, pain, unsubstantiated blame, and free-floating anger. We're all human beings. We each have experiences with life that have informed our world-view. Some of the wounds go back multiple generations. And we live in a society that is not generally open to the airing of wounds. So we're all, pretty much, out here in free-fall. All we have is each other. Anger is not the problem. The problem is in letting the anger take over. The problem is in not having a space in which to reflect and see the other as human. We're all angry although most of us do a good job of hiding our rage. But it's there. It's part of being human. So the task before us is to create a means for processing real crimes in a way that casts light on the darkness of our hearts instead of making them less full of light. All we have is each other. When one of us gives in to anger we're blinding ourselves. And that's going to happen. I've spent a good deal of my life blinded. But if we're going to find a solution each one of us is going to have to find ways to get past this obstruction. The whole world's in danger and all of us played a part in putting it there. Mostly in ignorance, but ignorance is no longer a viable excuse. The world is in too much danger. If we're going to survive we're going to have to wake up. And help those around us wake up as well. Don't blame yourself or others for ignorance. Simply make a connection. If we're going to survive we have to make the connection. In this dangerous world we've created... all we have is each other.
