Poem

Knowing how to explain love would make me a wealthy billionaire. 
I have so many ideas, but they are mine, and maybe no one else’s.
If I am lucky, we might share a couple of theories, but love is so ambiguous.
A term that means so many different things to so many.
To me love is a puppy, kitty, lilac, lily, hug, kiss, shoulder pat, rainbow. 

Some parents swear they are showing love when they beat their children.
“My dad loves my sister,” a boy told me once. “He tore the cover off the Bible beating her.”

Many women love their man no matter how badly they get treated, for they cannot stop.
“If you go home, he will kill you,” my nurse friend told the patient. 
But she loved him, so she had to prove it, right? 
To me this is a sad schema of what love is.  

What kinds of people do you run with? You ask. 
All kinds of people. Loving, everyday hopeful, optimistic trusting  people.

Love is so many different things to us, 
based on our experience, background, and heritage.

In some families love is a tradition, it is the thing to do,
expressed freely and warmly.

In other families, the matriarch tells you who, when, where and if to love.

Our ideas about love are often based on sounds, fragrances, memories, we share with no one.
The only thing I can tell you about for sure is, that love is tricky.
