Poem
Salvation has arrived, it happened with one look surprising it was, that's all it took The fear I had, gone, he stole my heart A son, a new beginning, a fresh start The uncertainty washed away with just one glance What you call a blessing, a second chance Innocent and pure, he brings new hope Life's challenges, I know I'll be able to cope A mother's love is automatic, spontaneous Indescribable, irreversible, and instantaneous The old cliché, a little bundle of joy A reason to smile, this brand new baby boy Lost and damaged from a tainted past Now that he’s here, I have a future at last Not what I planned nor what I expected A blessing in disguise, a gift I’m glad I accepted The questions I raised, the fears I possessed The time is here, time for the test I won’t let my son down, I’ll take that bet For him, I will win, my mind is set The fight isn’t over, I won’t be naïve With him in my corner I can succeed The quitter I once was has vanished into thin air Now you see me, now you don’t, the trick? I’ll share I found a reason for living, a reason to believe Said goodbye to the pain, finally let it leave The only way to move on is to accept what is Let go of regrets and start to forgive One step at a time, I’ll take it slow Life’s not a race, we’re meant to enjoy the show I’ll never forget this road I’ve been on It’s made me who I am, made me strong Prepared me for what’s still to come Ready to march to this beat, my drum His life I won’t mess up nor will I ruin The best for him is what I’m pursuing In the mansion on the hill we will never live Unconditional love and support is all I can give Provide him opportunities, ones I didn’t cease Point him in the right direction, to his life add ease What he’ll grow up to be is out of my hands As long as he’s happy, they’ll be met, my demands The best parents I had, but life still took it’s course Their not to blame for my personal remorse I’ll raise him just the same with protection and faith Remind him that his dreams he has to chase When the day comes he’s ready to go out on his own I’ll drop to my knees and pray to the only god I’ve known To guide him on his journey, be in his heart at all times Help him to accept life, it’s reasons and rhymes I’ll find peace in knowing I passed along all my best How to love and fight through the stress What he'll be shown, it was shown to me To give trust, have faith, the lord has mercy What’s been taught to him, will be taught again We'll make it our legacy, a family trend
