We rejoice as tiny sprinkles arrive
Thinking they will revive the hot pink roses
Blossoms sparkle, dazzling in a fairy-like way

The sky slams gray
Visible shield hides sun
Unnatural heaviness now

Rain begins daintily
Turns to bullet-like pelts
Splashes onto us with coldest of cold drops

We laugh, cuddle under black umbrellas
Making fun of the one with happy faces
The one we all would rather have

Songbirds hide, road turns into rainbow swirls
Sky seems angry; tiny wind feels like a hurricane
Our bones shake, teeth chatter

Feet and socks are wet and uncomfortable
Roses are bending their heads to the ground
Ready for the executioner’s blade

We head for our fireplaces and burrows
Thinking of our fuzzy socks and a pot of hot chili
Once again forgetting what happens after dainty sprinkles.
