You were a little house
A home away from home
A place I’d go to visit
To spend some time alone

I’d listen to the winds blow
The swaying of the trees
The crashing of the waves below
The smell of lakeside breeze

I read a many book there
In the quiet of the home
Watched early boats with many
birds surrounding their wake

Many special memories
Filled up this little house
Details in the hallway
Sightings dates a must

Meals and loads of card games
Painting rocks and more
Tales of trips on the bay
Scoring tons of fish galore

The walls and mantel filled
With trinkets saved by some
The sameness of it all 
Brought calmness to this home

Spent summers there with family
First Grandma, Grandpa and all
Then Mom and Dad and siblings
Our place of fun and calm

My Dad would finally relax there
His stresses went away
Mom would feed and entertain us
Or we’d go out to play

Swam down at the beach
A rocky beach to some
A lovely place to throw rocks
Or lie out in the sun

Dad has left us years ago
He’s missed more than you know
His presence always felt here
His voice still heard by some

His garage full of memories
Spent hours in the day
Organizing and tinkering
On this house on the bay

It’s unfortunate that some
Used circumstances to take away
This place so full of memories
In my mind it must now stay

Oh little house on top of the hill
In the forest tucked away
Remain forever in my mind
A treasure tucked away
