We kiss, but it’s only in my dreams
and when we meet – deep is the night!
Then I’m in your embrace, and I’m more awake
than I am in the light of day, my dear.

We kiss, and we are as one, my love.
Oh, can it be just a dream?
For I feel your breath, and it feels so real.
Oh so soft - breath on my cheek - so sweet.

And we kiss; then I’m awash with bliss.
I want so much for you to stay.
But you disappear. Oh, why must it be . . .
love flees in the morning’s light, my dear?

Note: When I listened again and again to Roberta Flack's "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," I heard her adding in a few little extra words here and there, so my lyrics are hopefully matched with her singing and not the exact syllable count as they are given in the online lyrics. This is a beautiful song that I can never hope to emulate with lyrics as fine as hers.
