Poem

It's midnight and perhaps late April,
The gunshots thundered sporadically across the roof,
Suddenly, an awkward silence crammed all the rooms.
Favour Akachukwu Onyekachi ran to the lavatory for safety,
But saw something creeping on the wall.
It was as if the creature was coming towards her.

She could not switch on the electric bulb,
It was few inches away from where she leaned to save her fearful soul. 
Slowly, the ugly creature kept coming,
Trying to fix her gazes on it, 
She heard something chirp, squeak and accompanied with hissing sounds on the tiled floor. 

Her legs became erratic,
More and more terror hammered her hurrying thoughts that clamored for utterances,
She could not identify what it was, 
Fear held her in a vice.

As the hands of time ticked, 
Her eyes enlarged in anxiety, 
And glared through the ajar door adjacent to where she stood,
An assemblage of shivers went down her spine.

Her brain had shut down,
It was as if she saw other moving images like zombies,
She was algid and there was lashings of some cold sweats all over her classic pink gown.

Laggardly, the door knob turned,
Her vision was still blurry,
She tried to scream but her mouth lacked the moisture needed at the moment,
She gasped for breath and was ready to die.

Like a magic, the electric bulb shined,
She hurrifyingly opened her eyes,
And beheld two wall geckos hungrily chasing a coakcroach haphazardly,
She breathed a sigh of relief, 
But never knew that the third world war has just begun.
