Poem

The realization is that
both parties want to maintain power
at the expense of "we the people".
That's why they rarely work together
at every turn they undercut the other
manipulate "the pay to play' media.
Both parties fan the flames of division
when it suits their selfish commitments..
They really don't want us to play nice together.
Our division is their strength-their platform.
Our togetherness is their weakness
our calm causes their storm.

We don't have to follow their bleating
and tumble over the cliffs.
We are citizens not sheep.

Come November we must remember..
who allowed the rioters to riot and looters to loot
and cities to burn
Who was joyful when the economy tanked
when people lost their 401k.

Come November 
these hard core lessons,,
who burned down the churches
who painted graffiti on the graves of the fallen
who stood aside as you lost your job
while they gave themselves hefty raises
they tossed you crumbs
who wanted to kill all the police dogs
because of a few fleas,
who deserted the precinct 
and left thugs to run the streets

Come November
gather in great numbers
Cast a vote... its the only voice you have...
No matter the outcome-stay calm
accept the results when the people speak.
Scream at the sky if you must
as if it would make any difference-
