I surrender myself to you
The grains worn with times gone
I’m as withered as an old apple
That has no juice left to give   but

I do remember them

Those that loved me once full of life
Laughter ringing out, foot paths worn
Do they think of me with love
Would they cry at my weathered face

Do they remember me

I sit on the hill where they used to sled
Winters all snowy soft white
Those years of tag, hiding under me
Sipping iced tea on the porch

Our life before you gave me up

Babies born in my bosom, held tightly
The tire swing that meant freedom
As you flew to touch the old oak branches
Gone now these past five years

Aborted by a fall during a storm


Years after Billie Sue was married there
All your lives being lived unhampered with loss
Then one by one you left me far behind you
School, jobs, families of your very own

Do you remember me back then

One day there came a big truck up the hill
And men carried all the furniture out
Along with boxes and boxes that went too
Tucked inside all scraps of me

I remember it so well

You were grey and a bit stooped besides
You walked together away from me
I didn’t realize it was farewell
And I sat and waited and waited and

I am waiting still
