Poem

Back in the dreams of yesterday
with the love of the past gone by
back in the days of yesterday
with the love of fun and games

On a train to the middle of nowhere
in a field of grass and grain
to a paddock in the middle of nowhere
came the people of yesterday

They'ed dance to the music of banjos
and laugh at the egg and spoon race
they'ed race, with their legs tied at ankles
a father and son racing game

They talked about gossip and mingled,
with friends,
that they worked with each day 
they laughed at the races of children

and kissed behind bails of hay
ate picnics enjoying the sunshine
a family, of people at play
no need for the rules of a lifetime

A Mother would know what to say
respect, was the game of the moment
as kids and the family played
now its Ipads, earphones, and chattel 

computers, that tic-tac, rattle
sometimes I think children have lost
the games that our family played
the days of laughter and sunshine

in the fields of straw and hay
on trains that took us to nowhere
where the men from the factory played
where the children knew laughter and sunshine

Instead of just video games,
we'd walk in the sunshine and laughter 
kids knew respect for the adults
at the picnics of yesterday
