Poem

Dust in the Clouds


Where could he have gone for cover now
Wherever he is
He’s home for the night 
Down the road or further away from the house
Where he’d reside since a child 
Within a place free of sound 
Now collecting dust in the clouds
He comes and goes like everybody else

The dry leaves stumble and collapse along
 their way to the other side 

He sung a song of glory, not of defeat
The years slipped through his fingers 
And lingered in his mind

I’ve cried with him
In the depth of his despair and pain 

Everybody goes
Somewhere , somehow , far, unknown to the eye
As his journey reaches its end 
Fighting but to no amend 
Where the guardian calls
And he can not but give in 

When you can’t reach home
In the blizzard, storm  
Live enough to see their eyes smile with comfort and delight
His night will come sooner than most 

The closer he gets
The more he dreads the shadow of death 
Cast upon his head
So he lets go of little things 
Little deaths 
Change of seasons and trends 
Time will come and fade away 
Sound asleep and rigid on the bed
See through the bitter end 
Or with  warmth , dignity and delight

We carry it all on our own
Sinking into it
Sharing the warmth of his hand 
Flowers all about

Cologne sprayed on either side of his neck
Closed his eyes and shut his mouth 
Away he flew out of our nest
Into another realm
