Poem
Unrewarded and unwilling slaves they were forced to be, against their will. In saying that these people paved the way, for economic foundations Of the USA. The south was the worst, The slaves working there Felt cursed. Slaves worked on tobacco and rice plantations For little or no money What they would have given For a little honey. Also working with cotton and sugar, They still couldn’t afford To go to a butcher. Northern states abolished slavery After 5,000 black soldiers fought for America And where set free, Those where the lucky ones That didn’t have to plea. The southern states at its worst Started slave breeding, If the women didn’t abide they would cop a beating, as young as 13 just a girl, How is this fair, In this world. They had to give birth As often as possible, Who made these laws? Where unstoppable. A law came into term, Called SLAVE CODE, slaves had to submit themselves to Their master, if they didn’t there Would be a disaster, The disaster of being sold Like an animal, Is so so cold. Not allowed to read and write All they had was their sight. Rebellious slaves faced Brutal punishments, Tring to escape their masters Astonishment. Some killing their newborns, In order to protect them, from a world that was Controlled by men. The North built some underground railroads, to help the slaves to freedom, some followed with good reason. Although slavery was lesser in the North They still faced discrimination, These people had no Stimulation. Couldn’t vote, own property, No freedom of movement Danger of kidnapping, The list is endless, No, I’m not rambling. No black and white marriages, Segregation in public places, And schools, these innocent people Felt like fools, Couldn’t live a life of choice these Times where hard, For the rest of their lives They felt scarred. Unimaginable circumstance these blessed People lived, So hard for them to relive. Will things ever really change, when all the politicians, do is pass the blame.
