Poem

Before mom passed away,
she anxiously asked me to sit down
and listen to the wisest words
ever said by someone so missed;
her tired voice was a fading whisper,
and I couldn't let go of her cold hand!
O mother, how true it came to be...
when facing tomorrow alone, 
and afraid to follow deception, I clung 
to the same strength that earned you love!


"Life ends, but something remains...
look beyond its purpose,
find good in everything;
don't carry the heavy load yourself:
have someone help you along,
as you helped me through my long days!"

Before I learned from you so eagerly,
sweet mother of a begone century;
now I take those lessons from life,
and I'm aware of how it effects me;
and remembering how you loved God,
assures me that you've already reached Paradise! 
What you sought after wasn't a treasure, 
but a desire to teach love without sparing the rod;
and that treasure is worthier than gold,
because it will be so indestructible!
