Peonies were originally called “sho yu” in China, meaning “most beautiful”.  They also carry symbolic meaning of good fortune and a happy marriage, making them an ideal wedding flower. . . (from Interflora)

“Sho yu (Chinese for ‘most beautiful’),” he said,
“like peonies in this garden bed
are you to me!” On one knee
he said, “Marry me.”
So in June
we wed.
Good luck strewn 
were blooms of “sho yu.”
That day we would never rue.
Magical moments never are gone.
Like bright peonies, our wedded bliss goes on.
