I remember standing on your feet to dance with you, when I was a little girl,
I remember how you taught me to waltz, around the dancefloor we would twirl.
I remember watching you dance with Mum and Auntie Kath, you always looked so strong,
I remember hiding when “Let’s Twist Again” came on, you really loved that dance and song.
I remember you rushing me to the hospital, the time I swallowed a one pence piece,
I remember you got pulled over for speeding, then got angry with the police.
I remember when I clashed heads with our family dog, she caught me with her tooth,
I remember the doctor wrote dog bite on the medical report, it wasn’t and that’s the truth.
I remember calling the doctor something not very nice because he got it wrong,
I remember being hysterical, I thought you would get rid of her. But she was where she did belong.
I remember the time I blacked your eye while we were exercising, I was the one to cry,
I remember you were a doorman at the Playboy Club, you had to go into work with said black eye.
I remember the proud look in your eyes, the first time you saw me swim in the sea,
I remember building sandcastles with you, when I was sixteen, you even went to the shop and bought a bucket and spade, especially for me.
I remember how much we laughed at that bloke running around inside a Ghost Train,
I remember him jumping out and shouting boo, we thought he was insane.
I remember the time I got run over, I thought you would shout at me,
I remember how worried you were as you sat me upon your knee.
I remember going to see The Spinners with you, I loved it every time we did,
I remember when you worked two jobs each day, when I was just a kid.
I remember you did it for all of us, so we could have a good life,
I remember loving family holidays, birthdays and Christmas, because of your hard work there was hardly any strife.
I remember walking around Blackpool Pleasure Beach for hours and only being allowed to go on a couple of rides,
I remember how proud of me you were, when my poetry was recognised.
I remember the way you accepted Dave, as if he was one of your own,
I remember my Wedding Day and the way you looked at me, your love was full blown.
I remember the times you said, that you loved to watch me dance,
I remember you were the first person I hugged when I found out I was pregnant the first time. That didn’t happen by chance.
