Poem

I long to walk a desert path,
Where stunning violet shadows lie,
And high-flying eagles circle my way,
Curious about what creature am I.

Silhouetted in a streak of red,
My feathered friends know no dread;
Awash in the sunset of Georgia O’Keefe,
Soon to find a perch to keep.

I breathe clean and clear hilly air 
Fill my shoes with still warm sand;
Leave an icy winter world behind,
Breeze through cacti arms, a comforting band.

Remembering days of long, long ago,
Playing in tan sands at mountain’s feet;
Before trapped by city’s blinding lights,
In buildings’ canyons’ rising steep.
	
And now as the desert night does fall
Inevitably dark and deep 
I gaze at saucer sized stars above,
And in my roll I dream in sleep.
