Poem
He was a silver tongued devil from New Orleans Carried a new deck of cards in a locked brief case He came up to Texas in a pair of pressed jeans With a stiff demeanor they called a poker face He had big brown eyes and a set of pearly teeth With a little blond mustache that hinted romance There was a double edged knife in a leather sheath That he had fixed on a belt that held up his pants He had come for the money that flowed in this state And he'd take it with cards the way he always had He had not figured on a woman in his fate But a woman there was and Lord it was bad She was six feet tall with auburn hair and green eyes A buxom charmer who kept two buttons undone She was the dealer at a table of small size He looked at her broad smile and thought."This will be fun." He sat at her table, his eyes began to stray She noticed his interest and undid number three She shuffled the deck and smiled and began to play Dealt mostly from the bottom but he did not see He lost all his money in a matter of hours And it was substantial even by Texas means He tipped his felt hat to those feminine powers Then hitch hiked and walked all the way to New Orleans The dealing lady invested his money well If you're in Texas and look 'neath that silver moon You are likely to come under that female spell She aptly calls her place The Three Button Saloon 10-12-18 For contest Fiction October 2018 for Broken Wings
