Poem
Within the repetition of the mundane, disguised by delusions and aspirations of grandeur, we struggle to find a purpose which can guide us to a higher level of happiness and self worth. We seek to break free of our shells and witness the new world just outside yet we remain unsure of ourselves and the purpose we should be striving toward. This insecurity continuously haunts us and, in time, tethers us to the security found within those shells until we become unable to ‘hatch’ becoming a bad egg and rotting. The safer the egg appears the harder it becomes to face the world without any form of direction. How do we head out without a purpose? Without something to strive for? We search for role models to imitate and we attempt to find others who, like us, are adjusting to this new world. We attempt to structure our own world to resemble that of our peers and make steps towards the world of our idols and role models. We seek guidance, we seek purpose, and we pursue all that we desire. This new, unfamiliar world has its complications, but it also gives a sense of fulfillment previously unknown. Comradery, love, success, this new world is full of many enjoyable sensations that are unreachable from the confines of our old shells, however we should ask ourselves; have we truly escaped from the mundane? This world is surely much larger and more complicated than before and there’s always something happening but is this everything we set out to find? Is living this new life the purpose for which we strive? Perhaps it truly is, maybe you have devoted your life to love or success, some people drown in personal pleasures and forget about the world around them while others wholeheartedly devote themselves to others while forgetting about themselves. Who am I to say that others are lost? This world has many different people and many different kinds of lifestyles and personal preferences as well as individual perspectives and opinions on what they seek to feel fulfilled. Exploring this world and finding our own place in it are the fundamental steps we must take to grow up.
