Poem

Change comes regular like seasons
for all those countless reasons.
Some days haunt, some thrill,
sometimes I seem to lose my will. 
But I will trudge on the road until 
I’m but a shadow in this existence.
These days my freedom stands still,
as my own life fills with resistance. 

Telling secrets and whispering lies,
I’ve cut my days down to size.
I’ve stacked sandbags against rivers
of my troubles; it brings shivers.
Fortitude can send me quivers,
yet I stand tall on the front line.
I hold into all that fear delivers
no justice as my stars never align. 

I feel all that’s ever been good is lost
and my heart has paid the cost.
Yet I see through eyes of ration,
fill my soul with adoring passion
in a surreal and abstract fashion.
Bestowing pain can’t bring kindness, 
the only way is through compassion. 
I need not riches only love’s bliss.

For the ways of these days reveal…
all the appeal of the need to feel.
