Poem
I’m talking to you. Can’t you hear me? I’m standing with you. Can’t you see me? I’m giving you my heart. Can’t you feel it? Why do you shrink away from my touch? What is so wrong with me, that you walk away when I approach you? Why am I the forgotten friend? The only one whom is left behind. Why is it’s so easy to forget me? I give my everything to everyone I meet and they soak it up like a sponge. But when they’ve had their fill of my love they forget me. Why? Why am I the invisible friend? They say that people are drawn to confidence. So I change myself to seem more confident. But the world continues to move around me. Sometimes it tries to move through like I’m not there at all. Am I not pretty enough? I’ll make myself prettier. I promise. Am I not smart enough? I’ll study harder. I swear. Am I too depressing? I’ll act happier. I swear to you. Am too quiet? I’ll be louder. I swear it. Am I too opinionated? I’ll agree with whatever you want me to. I’ll be whatever you want me to be. Just please someone see me. I’ll always be there for you. I’ll make sure that I never cause you any problems. If you would just see me, I’d be whatever your version of perfect is. I would do anything for you all. So what about me is so disgusting that you avoid any contact with me? Being invisible hurts you know. It means you get to see all your “friends” experiencing the kind love and friendship you work so hard to be able to receive. You get to watch them receive that friendship with no costs or expectations. You are always on the outside, until you are needed. You are like a tool in a toolbox. You are shoved into a box, and you are put out of sight and out of mind until you are needed again. How do become one of you? How do I become a person that comes to your mind more often then when you need to use me? How do I escape my invisibility?
