Poem

The jury is out,
On whether, in a century from now,
Humans will still have the capacity,
For the personal touch.

A lot depends on what we teach our children,
On the subject,
Will we instill them with so much fear?
That getting up close and personal with anyone ever,
Will be too much of a risk,
Or will we give them examples, with realistic expectations 
To guide them through a modern-day minefield.

Will we find a way to counter,
The overuse of texting,
Facebook, Twitter and other impersonal forms of communication,
Or will face to face meetings make a comeback?
Along with handwritten notes.

There is more at stake than most will care to admit,
In a throw away society where things still in their box,
Can end up in the tip,
And houses are becoming too small,
To invite someone in for a cup of tea,
Let alone stay over for the night.

A society where there is now technology, 
To make the choices, we once made,
And predetermine the thoughts we once called our own.

If we could see far enough down this road,
We could well come face to face, 
With a race disconnected from each other, 
And physically unable to feel,
Able to look but not touch,
In a permanent dream state,
Trapped in a virtual world,
Owing existence to the Robots,
That maintain their host computer.
