Rising meter is a metrical pattern in which each foot moves from an unstressed syllable to a stressed one. Because the beat falls at the end of the foot, the rhythm feels upward or forward-moving. Common rising meters include iambic and anapestic verse, which are often contrasted with falling meters such as trochaic and dactylic patterns.
