Poetess

Poetess is an old-fashioned word for a woman who writes poetry. It is now often avoided because many writers prefer the gender-neutral poet, and poetess can sound dated or dismissive depending on context.

Example

She published sonnets under the name poet,
refusing the label poetess for her work.
