Mock-Epic

Mock-epic is a comic poem or passage that borrows the lofty style of epic poetry to describe a trivial, ordinary, or ridiculous subject. By giving a minor event grand speeches, formal comparisons, and heroic language, the poet creates satire through contrast between style and subject.

The term is often used interchangeably with mock-heroic.

Example

He faced the mountain of laundry at dawn,
Raised up the basket like a shield at war,
And marched to battle through the hallway's fog
To conquer socks that hid beneath the bed.
