Melic poetry is lyric poetry in ancient Greek tradition that was meant to be sung, usually with musical accompaniment such as the lyre. Unlike poetry meant mainly for recitation, melic verse was shaped for performance and often expressed personal feeling, praise, love, or celebration.
The word comes from the Greek melos, meaning "song."
Example
At dawn I sing your name, bright as the sea,
And let the lyre carry my heart to you.
