A galliambic is a classical verse form associated with the worship of Cybele and the ecstatic, hurried movement of her rites. It is built on a distinctive ancient metrical pattern rather than on the normal English stress count, so modern English versions usually imitate its driving, chantlike effect more loosely than they reproduce the exact Greek or Latin rhythm.
