Figure Poems

Figure poems are poems arranged on the page to form a visible shape related to their subject. The layout helps create meaning as well as visual effect, so the poem is read both as language and as an image. They are closely related to concrete poetry and shaped verse.

Example

The moon hangs low
in a silver arc,
words curving like
night around a lamp.
