Cliche

A cliché is a phrase, image, or idea that has been used so often it has lost freshness or impact. In poetry, clichés can make a line feel predictable or familiar, so writers often revise them or replace them with more original language.

An overused word or phrase.

Example

The moon was a silver coin in a velvet sky,
a phrase so worn it hardly shone at all.
I'm so hungry I could eat a horse.
