Poetry has served me, personally, the opportunity to channel my thoughts through the narrow funnel of my heartfelt feelings to pour into the filtered colander of paper, the blots of those feelings and emotions which derive from the inmost part of my heart and soul, while reserving, retaining, suppressing, and brining to captivity those fiercely dark emotions of anger in order to enable readers to dive into the crystal-clear waters of purified emotions drenching each leaf-sheet of paper.
Where the mood is negative and my emotions have risen above the high tidal-wave levels of my heartfelt expressions, I resort to poetry in order to reach the shoreline where I can dock my sails to enable readers to see – with translucent eyes – clearly a “snapshot” of my heart’s poetic expression, while suppressing, any and all, accusations, allegations, and any lingering grudge, resentment, or anger. In doing so, the poetry created is certain to be “reader-friendly” and clean, FREE of any profanity or vulgarism.
While I do not consider myself a “skilled” poet, I can make a rhyme while “journaling” the heart-core of the situation or challenge placed before me. All poetry, from both – the practicing and skilled poet, journalist, and/or writer, tap into the inmost heartfelt expressions of the poet, uncovering their hidden and – often – dark hidden secrets of the poet’s inmost heart and soul. Other than tapping into uncovering those hidden dark secrets of the writer’s emotions and heartfelt sentiments, poetry is otherwise – USELESS! Poetry does NOT pay well and, other than another poet-lover’s appreciation for poetry, itself, the “World of Poetry” is, by far, composed of a “private community” where its members delight in treating themselves to read other poet’s written expressive art, while welcoming new prospective spectators to their secluded “World of Poetry!”
“Poetry is like beer: One must have an acquired taste for it!”
If I were to define poetry in my own terms, I would sum it all up stating, “Poetry is a worthless masterpiece!” It cannot be described any better than such! Poetry, unless sold to Hallmark, American Greetings, Shoebox, or any greeting card company, poetry does NOT pay the bills – much less the rent!
The value of poetry is really found in the heartfelt written expressions and sentiments of the poet or journalist. Poetry enables its readers to channel through the spheres of their minds to peer into their soulful expressions and sentiments of their imagination and/or their feelings and sentiments regarding the circumstance they are currently enduring and channeling through themselves. It enables readers to channel through their emotions to explore how a certain circumstance has made an impact on them to actually write about it! Poetry, itself, is a form of “journal-writing.” The only difference between “journal-writing” and “poetry” lies that poetry is much more packed with colorful details with its use of much added adjectives (descriptive words)!
The World of Poetry is definitely an exclusive world – set apart from all other authors of fiction and non-fiction books. Poetry is a “written art” of its own. No one, but other poets, may find other poet’s “written art” interesting, intriguing, and delightful! Everyone else in population may find “no use” for poetry, except for “literary-lovers” who have a passion for literacy, itself! It is those “literary-lovers” who make poetry renown by sharing it with those who come to mind as they read through a “poet’s masterpiece” or if they find it generally or personally delightful or impactful in any way.
Poetry, however, is not entirely “useless” to the general public, however! Poetry makes an EXCELLENT commuting and/or traveling companion! When sitting and waiting on public transportation during rush hour, a poetry book is very much ideal to cause anyone’s 45 min – 90 min, commute time appear much faster as they read through a “non-compromising” poetry book or anthology. Because poetry books are NOT broken into run-on chapters, readers may STOP at any moment and pick-up their read at a later time and/or next day! Poetry, most definitely, fills “lag-time” sensibly and gently, enabling poetry books and anthologies EXCEL in being any reader’s MOST faithful literary companion….. ¨
