Title Your Poem: "A Soul Awakened"

Byline: GEORGE CARRICK

Sunsets are revered because they disappear,

Flowers loved because they wilt and die,

The faithful dog and the proud cat are of short

Company and must depart,

As the heart of the morning turns to afternoon

And is eaten by darkness.

A promise, a touch, heartfelt love before we

Face the long goodbye,

The tired old face of a loved one, the journey

Coming to a close,

Each minute of each hour of each day, the last

Due soon,

Making haste to live in childhood, youth and

Growing up, living only as you could,

Born to visit time and return from whence you

Came, to vanish in eternity.

Life - a journey, a visit rounded by sleeps until

The longest sleep of all,

History falling into the mist of reminiscence, the

Ghost and shadow of a soul awakened by a kiss.

GEORGE CARRICK, Cramlington

Awakened    By: Gail Doyle

Years I slept without even a dream
Or so I thought it seemed
My soul upon the pillow of rest
Rid my mind and body of all the stress

Found myself finally opening my eyes
Awakened at the stroke of sunrise
Feeling its light shine within my core
Warmth that I’ve never touched before

My soul has become rejuvenated
Painful memories are now faded
An open space for my spirit to flourish
Upon a hope that will leave me nourished

Now, my words are awakened on paper I penned
Words blossomed from a road that I had to trend
All the tears now are laid to rest
Upon haunting shadows of past stress

Leaving me with the opportunity
Of writing a style of poetry
One that expresses the journeys I faced
Through a soul of a blossomed trace
