GROOK
MAXIMUM 10 LINE POEM
A grook ("gruk" in Danish) is a form of short aphoristic (a succinct statement expressing an opinion or general truth) poem, characterized by irony, paradox, brevity, precise use of language, sophisticated rhythms and rhymes and often satiric in nature. It was invented by the Danish poet and scientist Piet Hein. It may be found here under poetry forms on PoetrySoup and your poem must be indentified as GROOK – it will be disqualified if it is not.
Please write a grook on the SOUND of:
1.Person’s voice, eg the star from The Nanny
2.People’s squeaky shoes
3.Supermarket trolley
4.An irritating kid’s toy
5.A ticklish girlfriend
6.A bicycle needing grease
7.Etc
Footnotes are valid, but keep it to under 5 lines, please. With some poems, it increases the understanding and, therefore, the enjoyment of the poem, if the background against which a poem was written, is understood. Here follows an example of a grook poem which I had written recently:
TRYING
Try and try again if you must,
but then you should give up.
No one is going to join you
at your well laid table to sup.
