Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

Contest Inspiration Debussy

Dear Soupers, This contest inspiration is audio only.  I do not want to lead you anywhere with a single visual this time so this is just an audio clip of a portion of Debussy's Suite Bergamasque with multiple visuals. Do not focus on one but on the inspiration of thoughts. More info on the contest page.

Thank you, Craig for the heads up about your contest :)-- and yup, that was so nice, having those rowers at the end sharing the umbrella-- did you notice how the lights of the buildings were in time with the music? So cool!

Your blog title caught my eye, Craig--this is one of the very few instrumental pieces that I am familiar with (one of my frustrations, not being able to play any musical instrument, sighs)--admittedly, I only have one poem ever that has any reference to any instrumental piece, and this would be for Clair de Lune-that particular poem was also inspired during that time earlier this year wherein I saw a moonbow...sorry deviated. I see you only need new poems, sorry though, I don't think I can come up with anything decent right now....I am sure your contest will inspire a lot of very beautiful poems. Btw, did you ever see the Google doodle they made last August featuring this? I saw that last year, was smitten by it, if you want, you can check it out and watch & listen to it - I found this doodle to be so beautiful...

Carrie's musical life is much like mine..I love this piece and used to play it a lot. My son is much better pianist than I am..and he plays it with such feeling. I will definitely worki on something for your contest. BG

ahh.....we do have alike tastes in music, Craig. This piece is one I have played on piano since I was a teenager...was my mother's favorite, and was also why my son chose to name our granddaughter Claire. (She is Claire-Elise.... the name combines two favorite pieces I learned as a teenager, "Clair de Lune", and "Fur Elise" by Beethoven) . I never hear these pieces without thinking of my mother, or my grandchild.

I clearly remember you telling me the Claire part in the comment you left me, Carrie--- what beautiful inspiration for your granddaughter's name!
