Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

                                   Per Ardua

(To those who gave their lives to England during the Battle of Britain and left such a shining example to us who follow, these lines are dedicated.)

They that have climbed the white mists of the morning;

They that have soared before the world’s awake,

To herald up their foeman to them, scorning

The thin dawn’s rest their weary folk might take;

Some that  have left other mouths to tell the story

Of high, blue battle,---quite young limbs that bled;

How they had thundered up the clouds to glory

Or fallen to an English field stained red;

Because my faltering feet would fail I find them

Laughing beside me, steadying the hand

That seeks their deadly courage---yet behind them

The cold light dies in that once brilliant land…

Do these, who help the quickened pulse run slowly,

Whose stern remembered image cools the brow---

Till the far dawn of Victory know only

Night’s darkness, and Valhalla’s silence now?

This would be the last poem John Magee would write before he crashed his spitfire into a British field at the age of 19.

    wow, another amazing poem from him. Not sure about what a spitfire is. Was he in one of those older wars? What year did he die?(and he is English then?)

    Such an awesome poem to come from such a young man. It is sad that his life was cut short. Hey Craig ~ is that you in the picture above? Hot Dog, young man! Goodness! Love and hugs, Catie :)
