Dot Dot Dot Dot

Blog Posted:7/17/2013 7:25:00 AM
As a mental exercise I am attempting to connect some dots of Drake E. I have read his bio, one blog about his radio show, and seven of his poems. I do not expect to be very accurate, this is merely academic. I was actually intrigued by his blog that I went and read those poems and I noticed that he used two words in several of his poems, given his diverse vocabulary I found it interesting. The first word he used was cerebellum and the second was awakening. Based on the definition of those words and what little I read I am going to attempt to do a basic write up of him. I call him the wandering chameleon. Motion is very important to him and everything he does in more ways than one. The most important would be in his creative side. Like his bio states he can’t stick to one form, which also speaks of his creativity. There is movement in his creativity that always has him trying out new ways to express it. Poetry is not his primary form of creativity. There is a passion that drives him that I have not yet been able to pin point. This is because one I am not good enough to decipher it on such limited information or two he doesn’t know it yet either. The first is improbable because I am like totally super smart and the second is likely because it fits the mold of a wandering soul. He possesses the ability to make slight alterations to himself that allow him to fit in anywhere. He has many acquaintances but few real friends. The few friends he does have would be either from childhood or would be those he that share in his creativity. He shows symptoms of abandonment issues. I would hazard a guess that his mother has either passed or his parents are divorced, or he is a foster child. I am leaning towards the mother side of things. He has at least two older siblings. One brother and one sister and he is the youngest. When it comes to relationships; his insecurities mix with his longing to create a dichotomy that forces him to choose ones that won’t last. The fact that he knows the relationship won’t last allows him the freedom to give of himself fully because he knows it will be over and no real harm can be done. The abandonment made him fully self-reliant.  He worked for everything he has and this has created a certain pride and touch of arrogance in him. I would say that eighty percent of the time he shows a normal range of emotions. The other twenty percent he suffers something akin to depression and isolation comforts him. He does not judge people instead he is content to observe them. There is a small disassociation he feels while observing the world. He can fit in anywhere but he feels he belongs in very few places. This lends to the importance of his passion. Nothing makes him feel more alive than when indulging in his passion. I really could keep going on but the further I get from the original dots the less accurate I get I will be content if I am right twenty percent of this. So just need to wait and see what Drake says and I would like to thank him for his assistance.

NOW, I understand that although I write "imagining" things ... "something-Rubenesque" is there...alive... beating... pulsating... in all of my writings. BUT, what? How can you "percieve" what is a personal experience and what is not? How can you connect the dots? How can you know which are the real dots to connect? Am I the only person who writes fictional poems? I'll be back later...

4)- One more thing, (today, Im the one who's straying from one example to another to make a point), months ago, I wrote a poem ( for one of the last contests sponsored by Chris) based on a single (ending) line: "If Im the jailer, and the convict, and the crime." The persona ( the voice, the character) is a little weird, bizarre, unusual ... (I would say insane) and I wrote the poem (may I say in first person narrator?) always trying to make it "sound" believable... just because I like those ending lines.

3)- In many of my poems, the persona (the voice ... I would like to say: the character) yearns for an ausent woman, a lost love, an unreciprocated, unanswered, unrequited love, an infidel spouse, a dead spouse ... Again, I've never suffered from this kind of situations (yet!). My "wannabe" poems are fictional (they're usually written for a particular contest).

2)- In one of my poems I use: " I came [...] to place bricks in a row — flow/ to bend over backwards/ to forget — I sweat"; and in other poem: "Im a Chelsea hooligan from Harrow/ unskilled worker with bricks in a barrow" ... however, believe me, I've never had a brick on my hand!! LOL! Im the antithesis of a construction worker!! : D !!

1)- Im quite impressed not only by your perceptive-psychological-literary analysis (may I say clairvoyance?) but also by Drake's comment! Im not sure if we can infer, imply, or deduce by reasoning ... using literary premises as evidence. Well, you did it and you did it right ...

I see Drake approves of your blog and thinks it is fairly accurate. Very nice, nathan. It's great to learn more about the interesting people at Poetrysoup.

This is a 1st! Damn. I give you high respect for even wanting to do this in the 1st place. So, while you were off about some stuff, you weren't that inaccurate: I have 4 sisters (1 older, 3 younger), both parents are alive (divorced), no childhood friends sadly, I do "know" many, but few I call "friend". I do like to be alone sometimes, preferably while driving. I don't judge, I love to observe and just call out what I see. Relationships I take very seriously. I do adapt quick, but rarely settle unless I really feel at home. My creative side is triggered by poetry & music, but it's rooted through the video games I'm creating (new Indie Game studio I started). I'll stop here for now. :)
