I was born in November, 1964. I am a Scorpio. I am a disabled veteran, U.S Army, 1st Inf. Div., "Big Red One".

Being a Scorpio; I am passionate, opinionated, hard-headed, quick tempered and I have anger issues.

"Samual Ronthorpe" is my pen name. My 'real' name has never been published on the Internet and it never will. I have been writing for over 30 years and I do have a few writings in print, under my 'real' name, which I choose not to reveal.

I write as a form of therapy. I really don't care if anyone reads my work or not, in fact, I only recently began to self publish. My writing is a way for me to keep my mind busy. I have discovered that if I think too long on serious issues, bad things happen. It is not uncommon for me to spend months writing a play or novel and then just destroying it, without anyone ever reading it. I have done that more times than I can remember. Like I said, I write for therapy and am still really not comfortable with people reading my work, but I am dealing with it.

When it comes to God and religion, I am an agnostic; however, I completely respect those who believe in such things. I don't desire to change your opinion, in this area, as long as you don't try to change mine.

I have done a lot of traveling. I have traveled to Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Amsterdam, Spain, Portugal, S. Korea, Japan and a handful of other countries. I have taken 3 cruises. I took one to Alaska, one in the Virgin Islands/Bahamas and one to the Greek Islands. I plan to go to the U.K, sometime in 2013.

That's about it.

Hi Soupers,

I am probably the quietest LM here at the Soup.

I have been waiting to post this for 18 months, waiting for a certain poem is featured. It is, for the first time ever, featured this week.

I created a new form, based loosely, on the Etheree. I loved writing in that form but it was really constraining and I wished there was a form similar to the Etheree that could let me 'spread my creative wings'. I didn't find one, so I created my own.

Let me formally introduce O/E Etheree (the name may change, I chose it cause it rhymed)

Here are the rules for this form:

The 'O/E' is a 20 line, 20 syllable poem with ascending and descending syllable counts (spell check not working, forgive any misspells).

Line 1 through 10 have ODD ascending syllable counts starting at '1' and ending at '19'
Line 11 through 20 have EVEN descending syllable counts starting at '20' and ending with '2'

The lines can rhyme

Line 9 is a 17 syllable line, thats a natural Monoku, treat it as such and you have a 'stand alone' poem, within a poem.

This is not an Etheree variation.

I have not found this form anywhere, therefore, I am claiming it. I'm a poet, like you. We hate new things, thats just our way. Have an open mind, and give me CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Please

My featured poem written in this new style is called "Lessons in Love"

Take a look and give it to me hard.....not too hard.

Chris, didn't mean each line was 20 syllables. The max lines were 20 and the max syllables were 20.

Samual, I wasn't implying that you were trying to state there are 20 syllables per line. In my comment I explain that I checked the overall syllable count at 200 syllables(100 syllables per even/odd section). Wot I was getting at was your wording of: "The 'O/E' is a 20 line, 20 syllable poem" -- your wording suggests it is a "20 syllable poem"....you know, like a haiku is a 17 syllable poem. But the overall syllable count is 200, therefore it is a 200 syllable poem. I am usually good at reading instructive info. Possibly I read the wording of your instructions wrong. I was only attempting to help you smooth-out the instructive wording for people who aren't in your head, and are looking from the outside, in.

I am always interested when people come up with new forms. I believe you have a typo in this line: "The 'O/E' is a 20 line, 20 syllable poem"(missing a zero after 20), because the total syllable count should be at 200 syllables. I checked, and I actually enjoy how your form has 100 syllables for each even/odd section. I find this neat. So is the "stand-alone" poem effect of line 9.

Hello, Samuel. Hard but not too hard? ... and constructive? Are you sure? : D Well, I like the variation that you have created; it's an interesting and challenging exercise. I read your "Lessons in Love" ... I think that you can "add" content (ambiguity, analogy, a contradictory twist) Im not sure if this comment is just hard or too hard. (I can delete it if you don't like it). Im going to stop here. I'll be back later.
