Cyndi MacMillan is a well-rounded writer who embraces many genres. Her poetry has been published in The Fieldstone Review, Issue 2015 and in Grain Magazine, issue 42.4, Summer 2015, Passed Signs/New Fields  During the fall of 2015, she participated in the 20 Poem Challenge at the Ekphrastic: Writing and Art on Art and Writing, an online journal, and twelve of her poems have been published by the journal.

Her fiction has appeared in local newspapers and has won contests. She enjoys reading literary journals, and she is actively pursuing further publication within their glossy covers.

Verse is both magnetic and kinetic. She attempts - madly- to give equal attention to her poetry, short stories, and a novel-in-progress, the Trim of Wicks.  Regardless of genre, she focuses on language. One word has the power to repel or pull. She never forgets the reader and does her best to make their ride interesting.

Poetry soup is a friendly forum which enables people from around the world to share their writing. It has some great resources and provides a nice space for people to connect.

Cyndi lives in a small town in Ontario with her husband, young daughter and far too many books.

Fantastically, verse decrees: Yee scribe, share.

I take its counsel; I'm no longer alone

as I go back, back, to the Medieval Faire

with a modern Mystic who grins at thrones,

melts frosty cones. All that is lovely glitters

about her, in word, deed and spark of eye.

We joist in play, make mirth, and twitters

fly from two lost in the far of by and by.

Yah, we toy with dreams and dismiss regret,

for a Rose hath outwitted Robin of Hood,

and brave lady-knights join prancing pirates

with nary a query whether they should.

Modestly, she places the arrow in bow,

takes aim for a heart, then sets it aglow.

About the Royale Medieval Faire

Waterloo Park is transformed into a medieval village every September. It is a faire where you can see Vikings, knights, troubadours, gypsies, ladies with beards and knights wearing lipstick. You can eat a turkey leg as though it were mutton, watch sword play, try your hand at archery, spinning, (lol. NO NOT THE BIKE!. WOOL!) or calligraphy. I've watched a Royale Wedding, where a black knight tried to carry away the princess bride. I?ve also sat down in a makeshift pub, where I heard several tavern wenches sing some rather lewd refrains.

This is not an accurate account of history. The festival is not sponsored by the society of creative anachronism. This is all about what is magical, so there are wizards and fairies here and there, ready and able to enchant. There are actually giant mushroom seats in a circle where fairies wait to sprinkle their dust on children, tell them stories or simply pose for pictures.

In the past, they transformed an area of the woods into Robin Hood's forest and those crossing a bridge over a lovely stream would suddenly be set upon in the most merry of ways.It was great fun to bandy words and get a tad coquettish with these rogues.

Believe it not, all the entertainment from morning till dusk is only $5.

About Mystic Rose

Rose is a sensitive soul who sees far below the surface. Her poetry is full of emotion, but never overly wordy. She imparts a great deal of wisdom in her verse.

She can be playful and funny, and this reflects in her poems. Loving, yes loving is THE perfect word to describe her. Her comments always reflect her caring ways, brim with affirmation and friendship.

I think of this poet as romantic, spiritual, aware, adventurous and curious.

I think of this friend as wonderful, lively, generous and encouraging. A modern woman with timeless values.

About My Poem

I wanted to gift Rose a day that was fun-filled, of a romantic era and take her to a place that would spark her wild imagination. So I took her to a place where we all get to be kids.

Words I chose specifically for Rose... Fantastically, lovely, spark, modestly, brave, outwitted, heart.

I wanted to play with old English, so I dallied with some obsolete words, for atmosphere.

I loved writing this one for my fellow Canadian!

And can't wait to see if she's ever been to such an event before and if she enjoyed our little trip

I'd stopped by Linda Marie's last poem just two days before hearing she had passed away. I'd stopped by the same poem, just before Christmas. I had fully intended to write a special poem for Our Sweetheart, regardless of her absence (I have poems brewing for Soupers who have found homes elsewhere... like our Dreamweaver...)

Though I was going to whisk Kathryn away next, I will spend a day or two, chose the right place, and then I?m bringing Linda-Marie somewhere special that I know she would have enjoyed. Someplace lush, beautiful, full of sparkle and colour, luster...there must be luster...

Hey, a thought. Regardless of our avatars, our imaginings (some wilder than others)), our gripes and our swipes, we are REAL, here. Each of us with a full trove of history, things we expose and things we keep hidden, until ready to share, if ever, with each other.

Linda Marie's loss will touch many here... reminding us that friendship is fragile for a thousand reasons. When we choose to spend our days giving our best then, perhaps, at night, we can look in the mirror and think, I made people smile, hurt no one and left something beautiful behind... ah, and THIS is true poetry, isn't it?

God Bless you ALL. Life is short. Words may linger and regret can span a lifetime. Thinking of Linda Marie and her spirit...

Comment about whatever you will,

only blow kisses, first, at Mystic Rose

whose grace and kindness

remind me of another angel

who is now watching over us...

Mystic Rose is heart-people... with talent, ta boot! How blessed we've been, we are, on soup. Linda Marie's passing is a message for everyone. Pass the love, take no one for granted, because life is unpredictable. Hugs!

Sorry to hear about the passing of Linda Marie. I did not know her well but I enjoyed reading her poetry and positive comments. This is a lovely tribute to Rose and I enjoyed viewing the pictures from my home back in Kitchener Waterloo. I moved away 21 years ago to BC. My family is back there so I get out once a year to visit.

I've felt Linda Marie "around" today, her presence, as we read her poetry, it sounds like she's talking to us, still. Words are so comforting, that voice lives on!

I am so so happy that you liked it. Different from my usual tone... :D I have been called a (w)itch lol on occasion, but what I'm told so often is that I'm oddly intuitive, that "call people just at the right moment" type of intuitive.. THANKS FOR THE DUST. I SO NEEDED IT XOOX

PS........also, I just had to say...I cannot think of Linda Marie with thinking how she always used XXXXX's in place of S' often a trademark of hers, I think perhaps she was passing out kisses to one and all, as a gesture of love to keep. Even when expressing her thanks........(THANXXXXXX) ( Love never dies :)

Mystic Rose, has been one of the most generous souls with her praise, and encouragement. A rose indeed she is, would be just as sweet, if having even a different name.......but ROSE fits her velvet grace perfectly. And yes.....our Linda Marie will live on her own words of kind encouragement, and gift of poetry. Her words will live on and on.

Rose is such a sweetheart, and when she writes, her poetry exudes this same kind of charm as your poem shows forth, Cyndi. That would be great to see you do a poem on Linda!!

My challenge is while "showing" my dear friends places that I visited and love, some recently, some years ago, I want to show what makes that poet special TO ME and to everyone at soup. Blend these too things and try to find the write setting for my friend... I am finding it fun and restorative during this hellish winter!

I should have known you would be familiar with SCA. S.M. Stirling (the master SF potboiler, curse his name) wrote an entire series of books in which the SCA plays a central part. Love the blog. Cheers, Roy

I'm SUCH a geek wannabe! LOL! I went to the most fascinating workshop hosted by the University of Waterloo, history department (uh, I believe?) It was called "Forward into the Past." I took "classes" some up to an hour on things like... the life of a courtesan, Food in the 13th Century, etc. IT WAS AWESOME. My hubby, on the other hand, was ready to put in the stock yard. HA!
