Cyndi MacMillan is a well-rounded writer who embraces many genres and forms. Her work has been published in local newspapers and has won contests. She enjoys reading literary journals, and she is actively pursuing publication within their glossy covers.

Verse is both magnetic and kinetic. She attempts - madly- to give equal attention to her poetry, short stories, and a novel-in-progress, the Trim of Wicks.  Regardless of genre, she focuses on language. One word has the power to repel or pull. She never forgets the reader and does her best to make their ride interesting.

Poetry soup is a good forum which enables people from around the world to share poetry. It has some great resources and provides a nice space for friends to meet.

Cyndi lives in a small town in Ontario with her husband, young daughter and far too many books.

WINNERS: Love Letters to the Indian Subcontinent-- THANK YOU SOUPERS!

Blog Posted:7/4/2013 8:01:00 PM

A sincere apology to all those who entered my Love Letters to the Indian Subcontinent: Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. I have – finally — posted the winners.

I struggled with a few entries which did not seem to indicate they were written for this contest, including a few haiku. Others were very sensitive, kind and compassionate, but did not delve into the culture of this part of the globe. My apologies if I missed the inner message (please soup mail me if with any information or questions as to my placements.)

Thank you to one and all for your words, your time, your sincerity.

There are so many fantastic poems in the winners list. Good stuff, REAL stuff, poetry for poets. I could easily post several here that touched me deeply and others that SHOWED me true heart.

But I had to-- HAD TO!-- share the following INCREDIBLE piece of poetry with you... it was not entered into my contest, but oh...  it gutted me... such craft, such heart, worthy of a slow read. It almost hurts to read it...

Delhi blast
Written by:  Satish Verma

I am still naked inside.
Beautiful, trace element
is trembling, involuntarily
in infamy.

You live to succumb again.
The halved body does not stir
after the explosion.
Lips were moving without voice.

Tonelessly your feet
melt in the steps of saints.
The wounded sun is born again
in the name of faceless martyrs.

For whom the birds will fly
after a terror strike ?
The sky was asking the wayfarer,
who has betrayed the path ?

I will not be posting another contest till after my move is completed. I am SWAMPED right now and so looking forward to this move being finished.

Namaste, my sweet chums. I miss you all and think of you often!

Thank you , Cyndi, for my placement, as well as your nice comments about my poem which as you rightly guessed was not an overnight effort, but was written over a period of time which needed only finishing touches for the contest.. It was indeed great on your part to have thought of the Indian subcontinent for a contest. Congrats to all those who chimed in with their nice words about this part of the world!!
